Today was the last class of the year. We had a little rain, but we had a great time, especially sharing part of our day with parents and siblings. For the first little while, we had time to do our own things, starting with kazoos! We quickly found the smaller the hole, and together the tinfoil the better sound you can make, and after everyone had made one, we launched into a round of old mcdonald. After doing some songs loudly and annoyingly, we went on a parade down the bluff, using our kazoos, singing loudly in a line! For the end of the year, the teachers wrote portfolios and printed them out, with even a section from an interview with the squirrel in question, so they each drew a picture of them at forest school. It should be in their backpack! We had a snack under the tarp, and read two books the squirrels really enjoyed, leaning in to see the pictures of William and Boomer and The Raft. Today the slackline was up, from the morning class, something the squirrels haven't done this year. The swing from last week was also up, so we went over to them for some freetime. We found the slope down to the swing muddy and wet, so you could slide down on your turn, but on the way up,it was harder! Liviya found herself stuck, and the squirrels, eager to help their friend, formed a team of people to make a human chain. But they couldn't quite secure a hold on her slippery gloves. So with the help of Ms. Mel, they found a rope and tossed it down with a loop on the end to grab and after a few attempts we hauled her up! Then the parents and siblings started to show up, so everyone gave their families a quick tour and then showed them the wing or slackline. With the slackline being high, the kids climbed on a stump and got on, and then had to hold onto a higher rope as it bounced around. As requested by the squirrels, we spent the rest of the time playing our favorite games; card tag, octopus tag and revenge tag! Thank you for the amazing year squirrels, we had a wonderful time being your teachers! We hope to see you at forest school next year!
