Foxes, October 1st

upstreamforestschool

We started the day with giving the Foxes some basic engineering challenges. The first was how to protect an egg from a fall. Everyone had a similar idea with making a nest and wrapping the egg. Ask your Fox how their design worked.

We also challenged them with a catapult challenge where they all ended up with the simplest but possibly the most effective design.

After a group game we could not keep them away from their forts any longer. Some of the foxes worked on pulley systems and stabilizing their forts, while others worked on protecting their forts. We could say that they all worked on how to include one another and be open to be flexible enough to include each others ideas. It seems that there are three forts on the rise and they all have a different way of interacting with one another. During this time the Foxes also practiced their knots while fort making and taking prisoners.

In the afternoon we brought out some medieval weapons to inspire the Foxes to make their own. We are going to be introducing some techniques and patterns to make specific weapons in the coming weeks. At first the Foxes all wanted the already made weapons and by the end of the day they all chose to use their own. We're excited to see their skills develop.

Coming together at the end of the day we worked on a 'graffitti wall where we each added a drawing or two of something that happend in the day, which we shared before heading home.
