Welcome back Cottontails! It was super nice to have all five kids back in class to start the new year. After catching up with each other we dove right back into reading Wild Robot. The Cottontails seem particularly interested in the emotions that the Robot feels and what it would be like to feel fear for the first time.

After lunch we set about making a fire. Everyone had a chance to try splitting wood with a knife and mallet and made a good amount of tinder and three sizes of kindling. The Cottontails are well on their way with their fire skills!

We roasted bagels over the fire. Avyn had saved his sandwich to toast it on the fire to make a grill cheese. It was a little charred but looked good.

We also melted crayons on the fire to pour into molds, which at the end of class we used in our journals.

During free time the Cottontails became immersed in an imagination game that involved everyone in the class. The game developed into Breanne and Priya making a home base/ house for their stuffies in a tree and the rest of the class started to make a shelter out of large tree branches. It is only the beginning to the shelter and has an impressive frame.
