Cottontails, January 15th

upstreamforestschool

The highlight of the day was pooping popcorn over the fire. The Cottontails are becoming pro fire keepers. From knowing what they need to start a fire and maintain it they are starting to develop ways to delegate tasks and sustain a fire that can pop popcorn! This fire they even lit with one match! This is something that even the Owls are still practicing, so well done Cottontails!

Before the fire the Cottontails worked together to collect more wood for Avyn's shelter. They all worked together as they found good sticks and then heaved them up the hill. While Avyn and Priya worked on the shelter from the outside to decorating the inside, Jono, Mettaya and Breanne were busy in the tool circle.

We moved spots to make the fire so there was a snow pack. It was a little colder and the Cottontails learned (some the cold way) that it is always wise to layer up when the temperature changes before your body gets cold.

To end the day we did a challenging graph activity where the Cottontails made a graph in their journals to map ideas about themselves. I.E. Find square D,3 and draw your favourite animal. We will continue working on this. It was challenging to make the graph, but it was fun to build this graph of ourselves.
